SELL TO GOVERNMENT

Central Supplier Database registration

No organ of state can pay a supplier who is not on the Central Supplier Database. Registration is free and you can do it yourself. Most people who ask us to do it have already tried, and are stuck on a verification that will not clear.

R490fixed service price; the CSD itself is free at csd.gov.za

Central Supplier Database registration costs R490 at ProperSA. That is our fixed service fee; government and authority fees are charged at cost on top. If you give us everything we ask for and we still fail to deliver what this page promises, we refund our fee; a refusal by the authority is not refundable.

Independent paperwork service. ProperSA is an independent private company, not National Treasury. Registration on the Central Supplier Database is free at csd.gov.za and you can do it yourself. Our R490 pays for us to prepare your details, submit them and fix whatever the automatic checks reject.

What actually goes wrong

The form is not the hard part. Registrations stall on verification, and almost always for one of three reasons.

What you get for R490

What we will need from you

Three of these are not details, they are prerequisites. Without them the registration cannot be started at all.

The commodities are the whole point

Registering gets you a supplier number. Commodities are how buyers actually find you. Organs of state search the database by commodity code when they need something, so a profile registered under the wrong codes, or under two when it should carry twelve, is invisible to the people you registered to reach.

Almost nobody spends time on this part, because the form makes it look like an afterthought. We map what you actually sell to the codes buyers search on, which costs you nothing extra and is the difference between being on the database and being found on it.

Your registration completes with a supplier number and a 36 digit unique registration reference number. Quote the supplier number on every government quote and invoice.

Two registers that will stop you

The CSD screens every supplier against the Register of Tender Defaulters and the List of Restricted Suppliers. A name on either is visible to every buyer looking at your profile, and organs of state are not permitted to do business with a restricted supplier.

It applies to the people behind the business, not only the business, so a director carrying a restriction from somewhere else brings it with them. We check before you spend anything.

How it works

  1. 1Order and send your detailsCIPC number, tax number, banking details and director IDs, through the short form in your portal.
  2. 2We check before we submitWe look for the mismatches that cause stalled verifications and tell you about anything that needs fixing first.
  3. 3Submitted and confirmedWe register you and send your MAAA supplier number once the verification clears.

What we need, and what the checks catch

The Central Supplier Database verifies you against three other government systems while you register. That is why registrations fail, and it is almost never the form’s fault.

You come out with a MAAA supplier number. Keep the profile current: banking details, directors and tax status all have to stay accurate, because an out-of-date profile disqualifies bids without anyone telling you.

Update, 2026: online RFQ evaluation

Since 1 April 2026, requests for quotations (RFQs) on the Central Supplier Database that do not need an evaluation committee can be evaluated online. Suppliers respond to RFQs on CSD under the My RFQ menu, and an RFQ will not be awarded to a supplier whose compliance indicators show non compliant. Registration on CSD remains free (Treasury fact sheet for suppliers on RFQ online evaluation, 23 June 2026).

Frequently asked questions

What is the Central Supplier Database?

National Treasury's single register of everyone who wants to supply goods or services to government. Every organ of state, from a municipality to a national department, checks it before awarding work. If you are not on it with a valid supplier number you cannot be paid.

Is CSD registration free?

Yes. Registering at csd.gov.za costs nothing and you are welcome to do it yourself. Our R490 is for doing it for you and for fixing the things that get suppliers rejected, mainly a tax status that does not verify and bank details that do not match the account holder name.

What do I need before I can register on CSD?

Your CIPC registration number, your income tax number, a bank account in the exact registered name of the business, the ID numbers of the directors or members, and your B-BBEE affidavit or certificate. Missing or mismatched banking details are the most common reason a registration sits unverified.

How long does CSD registration take?

The submission itself is quick. What takes time is the automatic verification against SARS, CIPC and your bank, which usually settles within a few working days when the details match and can stall indefinitely when they do not.

Do I need tax clearance for CSD?

You do not upload a certificate, but CSD checks your tax compliance status with SARS automatically and shows it to every buyer looking at your profile. A non compliant status does not block registration but it does cost you work, because buyers filter on it.

What is a MAAA number?

The unique supplier number CSD issues once you are registered, beginning with the letters MAAA. Quote it on every quote, invoice and tender document you send to an organ of state.

Getting tender ready properly

CSD is one item on a longer list. Most buyers also want a B-BBEE affidavit, a tax compliance status that verifies, and for construction work a CIDB grading. The tender ready pack covers the set in one go at R890, which is cheaper than buying the pieces separately.

CSD is the first of four

CIDB will not register you until your CSD is clear, and bids also ask for COIDA and a tax clearance PIN. The Tender Starter bundle does all four in the right order for R3 290.

The Central Supplier Database is run by National Treasury and registration is free at csd.gov.za. Verification against SARS, CIPC and your bank is automatic and outside our control; we prepare the submission so it has the best chance of clearing. This is administrative assistance, not legal or tax advice.
