Your B-BBEE affidavit, generated free

If your turnover is R10 million or less, the law says you never need a verification agency: a sworn affidavit is your B-BBEE certificate. Agencies charge thousands for what a police station stamps free. Fill in your facts; the affidavit builds itself and nothing you type leaves this page.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a B-BBEE certificate if my turnover is under R10 million?

No. A business with annual turnover of R10 million or less is an Exempted Micro Enterprise and only needs this sworn affidavit, which is free. Paying an agency for an EME is paying for something the law gives you at no charge.

What level does an EME get?

Level 4 automatically; Level 2 at 51 percent or more black ownership; Level 1 at 100 percent. The affidavit states the turnover and ownership facts under oath.

Where do I get it sworn?

Any commissioner of oaths: every police station does it free, and many banks, attorneys and post offices have commissioners. It is only valid once signed, stamped and dated before the commissioner.

How long is it valid?

Twelve months from the date of commissioning. Tenders check the date; an expired affidavit counts as none at all.

More questions people ask

What B-BBEE level does an EME get?

Level 4 automatically. If the business is at least 51 percent black owned it becomes Level 2, and at 100 percent black ownership it becomes Level 1. The affidavit simply states the turnover and ownership facts under oath.

Where do I get the affidavit sworn?

Print it and sign it before any commissioner of oaths: every police station does this free, and many banks, attorneys and post offices also have commissioners. It only becomes valid once signed, stamped and dated by the commissioner.

How long is a B-BBEE affidavit valid?

Twelve months from the date it is signed before the commissioner. Diarise the renewal, because tenders and supplier portals check the date and an expired affidavit is treated as no affidavit.
