SARS eFiling and registered representative
Every company hits this wall: SARS will not let you file, fix details or get a tax clearance PIN until a registered representative is appointed and verified. The process defeats most people the first time. We do it with you, step by step, at a fixed price.
SARS eFiling and registered representative costs R690 at ProperSA. That is our fixed service fee; government and authority fees are charged at cost on top. Turnaround: typically 3 to 7 business days. If you give us everything we ask for and we still fail to deliver what this page promises, we refund our fee; a refusal by the authority is not refundable.
What is included
- Your company's eFiling profile located, recovered or newly activated
- The registered representative appointment prepared and submitted to SARS
- A guided document step: we tell the representative exactly what SARS's secure channel will ask for, so it has the best chance of passing first time
- SARS queries and rejections handled until the appointment is confirmed
- Confirmation delivered to your client portal, with a what-to-do-next sheet for returns and tax clearance
Why this blocks everything else
SARS requires a natural person, usually a director, to stand behind a company's tax affairs. Until that appointment is verified, the company profile is effectively frozen: no returns, no tax clearance PIN, no banking detail updates, no VAT registration. It is the first SARS task every new company should do and the most common one to get stuck on, because the identity verification fails when the documents are wrong. We prepare it so it passes.
How ordering works
- Order online with the button below and pay securely by card or instant EFT (PayFast), or wait for the EFT invoice.
- Complete the short online form waiting in your client portal: company details and who the representative will be.
- We prepare the appointment and guide the representative through SARS's identity step; sensitive documents go to SARS directly, never through us.
- The price you see is the price you pay, and if you give us everything we ask for and we still fail to deliver what this page describes, we refund our fee. A refusal by the authority, or a delay caused by missing information from you, is not refundable. Full rules in our terms.
Not sure this is the right one for you? Ask us first and you get a written answer within one business day.
What we will need from you
This is the appointment that unblocks everything else at SARS, and it fails on mismatched details more than anything.
- The entity name and registration number, exactly as they appear at CIPC.
- The income tax reference number.
- The representative’s full name, identity number and contact details. This must be someone genuinely entitled to act: a director, member, trustee or public officer.
- Proof of the representative’s address, no older than three months.
- Proof of the entity’s address and its bank account details.
- A resolution appointing the representative, which we prepare for signature.
Frequently asked questions
What is a SARS registered representative?
The natural person SARS recognises as responsible for a company's tax affairs, usually a director. Until one is appointed and verified, the company cannot file returns, request a tax clearance PIN or update its details on eFiling.
Why can I not access my company on eFiling?
Usually because no registered representative has been appointed and verified, or the tax number sits on an old profile nobody controls. Both are fixable through SARS's online processes with the right documents.
What documents does SARS ask for?
Typically the representative's ID, a photo taken during the online process, the company registration document and proof that the person is authorised, such as a resolution. SARS collects the sensitive items through its own secure channel.
How long does the appointment take?
Once submitted with the right documents, SARS usually confirms within a few business days. Requests with wrong or missing documents bounce, which is the delay this service exists to prevent.
Need proof of compliance next?
Once your representative is confirmed, the tax clearance PIN takes days, not weeks. R450.
Get the PINThis is an administrative service performed with your authority on your own SARS profile. ProperSA is not a registered tax practitioner and does not provide tax advice or complete tax returns; where a matter needs a registered practitioner, we say so and refer you before any work starts.
