COMPENSATION FUND SERVICES

Return of Earnings administration

Your annual Return of Earnings keeps the Compensation Fund account current. We prepare the submission from the payroll and business information you provide, then manage the administrative follow-up.

Scope reviewed firstwritten quote before work starts

Authority first. ProperSA acts only after the employer has given the appropriate limited authority. We use authorised practitioner or delegated access for UIF work; Compensation Fund representation may require a Power of Attorney.

What we can handle

Your role as the employer

You remain responsible for the accuracy of earnings, payroll, business activity and supporting records. Assessments and Fund charges are paid to the Compensation Fund, not to ProperSA.

Timing and Department requirements

The Fund sets the annual submission period and may request supporting documents, verification or audit information.

The normal service is remote. If the Department requires the employer, director or another authorised person to verify information, provide documents or attend in person, we will tell you and you remain responsible for that step.

Update, October 2026

Outstanding returns of earnings. Returns of Earnings for 2025 and earlier years that are still outstanding must be submitted by 31 October 2026. After that date the Compensation Fund may raise an assessment on an estimate of your earnings and add a penalty of up to 10% of the final assessment (Notice 4140 of 2026).

2026/27 figures. The maximum earnings counted per employee are R668 000, and the minimum assessment is R1 621 a year, or R560 for a domestic employer, in effect from 1 March 2026 (Notice 3910 of 2026).

Frequently asked questions

How much does return of earnings administration cost?

The price depends on scope, so we quote in writing first. Government and authority fees are charged at cost on top where they apply.

What do you need from me?

The documents and details are listed on this page. You complete a short form in your client portal and upload them; we tell you before we invoice if anything is missing, not halfway through.

What if the work cannot be completed?

If you give us everything we ask for and we still fail to deliver what this page promises, we refund our fee; a refusal by the authority is not refundable.

Are you the authority, or a law firm?

No. ProperSA is an independent private company, not a government body, a law firm or a registered tax practitioner. We prepare and lodge paperwork under your written authority; the authority makes the decision.

This is administrative compliance support, not legal, accounting, payroll or tax-practitioner advice. Department decisions, account outcomes and turnaround times remain outside ProperSA’s control.
