Scary letter? We read it so you sleep.
Official letters are written to intimidate. Most are less deadly than they look; some are more urgent than they look. For R150 we read yours and tell you, in plain English within one business day, what it actually says, what deadline is ticking, and what your sensible options are.
Scary letter? We read it so you sleep costs R150 at ProperSA. That is our fixed service fee; government and authority fees are charged at cost on top. If you give us everything we ask for and we still fail to deliver what this page promises, we refund our fee; a refusal by the authority is not refundable.

What to send us
- The letter itself, every page, including the back of the last page where the deadlines and appeal rights usually hide.
- The envelope or email header if you have it, because when it arrived often matters as much as what it says.
- Anything that came before it: earlier letters, invoices, statements, messages. A demand rarely makes sense on its own.
- What you already did, if anything, and when.
Photographs of the pages are fine. You do not need a scanner.
What you get back, and what we will not do
A plain explanation of who sent it, what they actually want, what happens if you do nothing, and what your realistic options are, with any deadline stated as a date. Written so you can act on it without having to look anything up.
What this is not is legal representation. We will tell you when a letter needs an attorney rather than a checklist, a summons, a court date, anything involving your home or a criminal charge, and we will say so plainly rather than taking your money for the wrong help. The most useful thing about most alarming letters is finding out which kind they are.
Frequently asked questions
What kinds of letters can you explain?
SARS notices, attorney letters, bank and debt collection letters, municipal notices, landlord and body corporate letters, CCMA and labour documents. If we open it and it needs an attorney immediately, for example a summons with a court date, we say so in the reply at no extra step.
How fast?
Within one business day of receiving your letter, in writing, in your portal and inbox. Urgent documents get flagged as urgent.
Is this legal advice?
No. It is a plain English explanation of what the document says, the deadlines it carries, and the sensible options people in your position usually have. Where the right option is an attorney, we tell you that plainly and you have lost R150, not a court case.
What happens to my document?
We delete it after delivery unless you ask us to keep it on your client file. The explanation itself stays in your portal.
Need to fight back after reading it?
