Employer Admin
Hiring your first staff member triggers UIF, COIDA and SARS registrations most owners only discover when something goes wrong. We sort the registrations and prepare the forms. First, see what an employee really costs you below.
Employer Admin costs R2 390 at ProperSA. That is our fixed service fee; government and authority fees are charged at cost on top. If you give us everything we ask for and we still fail to deliver what this page promises, we refund our fee; a refusal by the authority is not refundable.

- COIDA (Workmen’s Compensation) employer registration

How ordering works
- Order online with the button below and pay securely by card or instant EFT (PayFast), or wait for the EFT invoice.
- Complete the short online form waiting in your client portal. It asks for everything we need, no calls, no meetings, everything on record.
- We prepare and submit the registrations from your questionnaire and email confirmations and your document pack as each registration completes; allow five to ten business days for the government side.
- The price you see is the price you pay (there are no government fees for these registrations), and if you give us everything we ask for and we still fail to deliver what this page describes, we refund our fee. A refusal by the authority, or a delay caused by missing information from you, is not refundable. Full rules in our terms.
Update, October 2026
Outstanding returns of earnings. Returns of Earnings for 2025 and earlier years that are still outstanding must be submitted by 31 October 2026. After that date the Compensation Fund may raise an assessment on an estimate of your earnings and add a penalty of up to 10% of the final assessment (Notice 4140 of 2026).
2026/27 figures. The maximum earnings counted per employee are R668 000, and the minimum assessment is R1 621 a year, or R560 for a domestic employer, in effect from 1 March 2026 (Notice 3910 of 2026).
Frequently asked questions
What must I register for when I hire my first employee?
Three things: UIF with the Department of Employment and Labour, COIDA with the Compensation Fund, and PAYE/UIF/SDL with SARS if any employee earns above the tax threshold. All three registrations are in this pack.
How much does an employee cost above their salary?
At minimum your 1% UIF contribution, capped at R177.12 a month. Add 1% SDL if your total payroll is over R500 000 a year, plus your annual COIDA assessment based on your industry. The calculator above shows your exact numbers.
Do I need to register for UIF if I only have one part time employee?
Yes, if they work 24 hours or more a month. You register as an employer, deduct 1% from their pay, add your own 1%, and declare them monthly.
What happens if I never registered for COIDA?
You can be held personally liable for a workplace injury, and you cannot get the letter of good standing many clients and contracts demand. Registering late is far cheaper than an uninsured claim; the Fund can also back-assess you.
Is SDL really due if my payroll is small?
No. If your total annual payroll is R500 000 or less you are exempt from SDL and should not register for it. The calculator applies the threshold for you.

Employer costs shown cover UIF and SDL only; your COIDA assessment depends on your industry class, and PAYE depends on each employee’s tax position.
